Ken is a graphic communication professor and former program head at California Polytechnic State University. Cal Poly, as it is known, is widely regarded as having one of North America’s best programs in graphic communication. Ken, who joined Cal Poly in 2000, teaches many operation-oriented courses, including Graphic Communication Production Methodologies and Quality Control, Lean Manufacturing Practices for Print Production, and Sustainability and Environmentally-Friendly Production Processes. Prior to being a professor he was the director of printing services at the University of Akron. He is a co-author of Lean Printing: Pathway to Success, published by Printing Industries of America, and has been an instructor in Lean workshops offered by the Graphic Communication Institute at Cal Poly.
Industry 4.0 = Lean 2.0 + AI 2.0
Industry 4.0 is described as the fourth industrial revolution and it includes artificial intelligence (AI). However, how does Lean fit into the prescribed model? And how does industry adapt to the coming changes? In this session we’ll gain a further understanding into Industry 4.0 and where we, as an industry, sit within its forecasted evolution. We will look at how AI and automation will affect (or not affect) the future of our businesses and, most importantly, how our Lean and continuous improvement efforts will remain relevant.
