Steve Carter has 30+ years leveraging technology to elevate packaging graphic production, from design through final print. He has many years of experience leveraging different technologies to enhance the graphic design-to-print production process, with a focus on packaging. He has spent the better part of his career in executive and management roles with Phototype, Southern Graphic Systems (SGS), and with TSI Graphics, working directly with printers and consumer product goods companies. This includes helping design, engineer and manage the digital graphics workflow systems, supplying the package converter with plates/cylinders, and overseeing the entire design to print process. During the last few years Steve has spent time working with printers/converters on how to better optimize their internal workflows. Being a certified Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt, he has been able to use his Lean Manufacturing training to bring about valuable change and drive waste from the process. He currently serves as the co-chair of the Ghent Workgroup Packaging subcommittee, as a member of the ISO TC130 WG2 committee, and as a member of the EskoWorld Advisory board.
5S for File Management
(Process & Tools–Fundamentals) Printers constantly suffer wasted time and materials. The 5S methodology is a structured approach to eliminating waste, becoming organized, quickly spotting abnormal conditions, and setting new standards. Even though mostly used in physical work areas, 5S can pay dividends anywhere, include in the digital sphere. Applying 5S to file management results in less time looking for files, an organizational system anyone can understand, and greatly reducing the potential of producing the wrong file. Come learn about 5S and its application in an uncommon area.
